Entry 2
On August 8th, I attend an event called the Dream Team Challenge. It's a huge event that involves all faculties in MMU, and one of the main purpose is to have students of different faculties create a group together. Each group must have a different member from each faculty, however the only faculty that could have a maximum of 2 members from the same faculty is Faculty of Creative Multimedia(FCM) because of their huge number of students.
So, each group would have 2 FCM members and one member from another faculty to complete the requirements for the event. Hence, the name Dream Team.
Now that introductions are over, I would like to share my experience of that day to everyone. My group consists of 2 FCM members, and a student each from Faculty of Computing and Informatics(FCI), Faculty of Management(FOM), and Faculty of Strategic Communication(FSC).
The first activity we were given is to create either an Internet or Technology(IoT), Mobile App and Web App that has a young target audience. At the beginning of our brainstorming, our group decided to make a Web App but we decided to choose the Mobile App instead, because children in this generation are already playing with Ipads and Smartphones, and they are more likely to find enjoyment in a mobile app than the other options. Moreover, it is much easier for the children to explore and play a mobile app.
Since the theme for the activity is STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths). Our idea for the mobile app is to create a mobile game that teaches kids about STEM.
Why did we chose to create a mobile game? It's because kids need something stimulating to keep their attention towards something, especially when that 'something' requires learning. Learning while having fun is what our group strive for during the brainstorming session.
So we thought of ideas to our educational game. This game would have a story line, to control the types of questions we could give to the kids. We haven't thought about the questions yet, but it will include all of STEM. Kids would have to solve the questions we will give to them to gain access to the next part of the story.
We decided to name our mobile game "Buzz Out", because it means a strong feeling of excitement and it also sounds catchy and cute, that it might attract the attention of kids. Moreover, the main character of our mobile game is actually a bee, so this gives the name a double meaning.
There are a lot of things we haven't thought of yet, such as how is the game going to be played and so on. But we built a foundation of ideas for this game, and for now it is enough for us. Hopefully, we'll be able to think more on the details.
Here's the character design for our main character and mascot.
