Week 9

Entry 11

Group Name: Buzz Out

Task:
1) Pitch our board to the judges

Process:

DTC: Final

Week 8

Final Entry

Group Name: Buzz Out

Task:
1) Work out those pitch board
2) Writing report

Process:
1) Laras and I started doing the work needed for the DTC pitch board. We started our work at 10 in the morning at Learning Point, and began our long journey to finish our work. Firstly, we touch up on the presentation slides made by Suraya. We added a lot of information in the slides, and place in some designs so it would look good. The presentation slides took around 2 hours of our time.

After that, we began working on the Value Proposition Board. This one took almost 2-3 hours of our time because of certain issues. Then, we continued with doing the middle part of the pitch board. We used photoshop to create all the information and design.

Lastly, we print out those things and pasted it in our DTC pitch board.

Problems Faced:
1) We have no idea on how to work on the Value Proposition Board. This is supposed to be an FOM's student work, because they learned about this. Not FCM students. This is why it took Laras and I 2-3 hours of time, because we are completely uneducated on this particular task.

2) How to write the report? The lecturer says you can do it in any format but I need a guideline.

Steps taken to solve the problem:
1) We basically googled what is Value Proposition Board and try our best to understand what we should do for that part. Maryam has already gave us information about VPB, but it's not what I or Laras wanted. We decided to do it our own and take the information from Maryam, then make ourselves a half decent VPB.

2) I have to check in with my other friend about the report.

Here is the final look of our DTC pitch board:

The only thing left to do is the presentation on Saturday. Let's hope for the best!

DTC: Consultation Progress

Week 8

Entry 9

Group Name: Buzz Out

Task:
1) Meet the group supervisor assigned to us
2) Show our current progress of our mobile app

Process:
1) Our supervisor, Dr. Ong Jeen Wei posted about a consultation clinic in MMLS, where we could show him the progress on what we have done. He stated in the post that he will be in the EDC office from 2pm till 4pm.

2) We showed him a video that we made, a gameplay of Buzz Out. Basically the player would have to choose the correct answer in order to go to the next level. If the player chooses the wrong answer, they won't be able to move on from the level they're in.

Problems Faced:
1) There were only two members able to go meet the supervisor.

2) The pitch board is not done yet. We haven't even print out the papers to stick on the board, or start creating the Value Proposition Board. Plus, the poster for Buzz Out is not even designed yet.

Steps taken to solve the problem:
1) Laras and I decided to go on ahead with the meeting, and update in the group later.

2) We decided to split the job for the pitch board. Laras and I will do the MVP part, Suraya will do the middle part and Maryam will do the VPB part.

DTC: Design

Week 7

Entry 8

Group Name: Buzz Out

Task:
1) Making the design for the gameplay

Process:
1) I'm going to create individual AE files in Adobe After Effects, then save these files in PNG so that Laras could use these files to animate. I got my inspiration by a game called 'Reaper', it has the color palette perfect for the forest in Buzz Out, and its design is simple to make. However they make up for it for the game effects and visuals.

This is how I plan to make:

Problems Faced:
1) The presentation is on August 21, will I have enough time to design?
2) Writing the report.

Steps taken to solve the problem:
1) I'm going to stay up late to make the design, then give it to Laras so she could animate it. There's no other way.

2) If I'm not mistaken, our lecturer said we have free reign with the report. I'm going to ask a few friends of mine on how would they do the report.

DTC: Group Meeting

Week 7

Entry 7

Group Name: Buzz Out

Task:
1) Discuss more about the storyline and gameplay of Buzz Out.
2) Distributing the work between members.
3) Choosing the overall design for the mobile app

Process:
1) We tried to simplify the storyline after discussing more about it in detail. Instead of having 4 different worlds the player has to go through, we decided it's best to make it straightforward as possible. The player has to guide a lost bumblebee through the forest by answering questions and puzzles so the bumblebee can get home. I named the bee Lemon, because both has the same color palette. Moreover, it would sound cute to our target audience, which is kids from 6-12 years old.

2) I would do the design and Laras will help me by animating it in Adobe After Effects. Suraya, an FCI student will take care of the technical part. Maryam(FOM) and Anis(FAC) will prepare the questions for the game and will be doing the pitching.

3) Laras and I decided that we would do a simple design with Adobe After Effects. We chose a color palette from Pinterest, that was perfect for the environment in Buzz Out.

Problems Faced:
1) Preparing the questions

Steps taken to solve the problem:
1) We could do a little research on STEM and figure out how to apply the questions in the game.

DTC: Gameplay Ideas

Week 6

Entry 6

Group Name: Buzz Out

Task:
1) Meet up at the Learning Point for DTC group meeting

2) Discuss about the gameplay, ideas for questions and problems

3) Mobile app page design, concept art, game visuals

Process:
1) For our gameplay, we decided on making it into a 2D side scrolling game. There are 4 worlds the player will journey into, each world represents the aspect in STEM. In each level, the player has to solve several puzzles to go on the next one. There would be a total of 20 or 30 levels in each world, all of which will be given questions according to the world you're in.

Problems Faced:
1) Only two members managed to come up at the designated place for us to have the meeting. The others members unfortunately are too busy with other assignments, or are out of Cyberjaya.

2) The design for our mobile app

Steps taken to solve the problem:
1) We decided to have the meeting regardless of the absence of other members. The others will be notified in the WhatsApp group.

2) Laras and I will make sketches and ideas for the design of the game layout. Once we're done, we will show it to Suraya, an FCI student to check whether it is acceptable or not.

DTC: Planning for Group Meeting

Week 6

Entry 5

Group Name: Buzz Out

Task:
1) Plan a meet up with the group about Buzz Out

Process:
1) Tell the other members of the upcoming meeting

Problems Faced:
1) The different schedules of every member makes it hard to meet properly. This is why our group haven't make a big progress in our mobile app prototype.

Steps taken to solve the problem:
1) Ask when is everyone free to have a DTC group meeting?

DTC: Team Meeting

Week 5

Entry 4

Our group consists of students from different faculties, which means we have different time schedules and unable to do a face-to-face meeting. So we decided to make a WhatsApp group to make communication easier.

Our first problem was the confusion about whether we have to make a report or not.

Thankfully this problem was solved after the lecturer posted more details on our DTC assignment in MMLS.

DTC: Before the challenge

Week 4

Entry 1

Group Name: Buzz Out

Task: To form a group consisting of students from all faculties

Process: I asked a friend of mine if she would like to be my partner for the DTC group, because for FCM students everyone has to pair up with one, and she accepted.

Problems Faced: We don't know any students from other faculties.

Steps taken to solve the problem: Wait for the day of DTC to come and recruit our members.

DTC: Consultation Clinic

Week 5

Entry 3

Dream Team Challenge

On the 3rd of August, I went to the consultation clinic for DTC (Dream Team Challenge). I wanted to know what is the next step of our progress. To be frank, our group has no idea on how to move our group progress.

I went to consult to the lecturer who is in charge of the FCM (Faculty of Creative Multimedia) students, and what I learned from the consultation was astounding. I explained our group's idea about "Buzz Out", a mobile gaming app that teaches kids about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) and all the ideas our group had.

The lecturer then proceed to ask several questions such as:

-How does your game will be played by kids?
-What kind of questions will you prepare?
-How do you make the kids stay interested to your game?

Unfortunately, I couldn't all these questions because my group haven't even touch these areas of problems.

Here are the notes I took during consultation.

I didn't asked a lot of questions, but at least this gives my group somewhere to go from where we are right now.
